HAMMOND and WESTVILLE – Purdue University Northwest Director of the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) Chenn Zhou has been awarded The Society of Innovators Gerald I. Lamkin Fellow for Innovation and Service.
Zhou was previously named a Society Fellow in 2005 for her work to extend the life of blast furnaces and then again as a recipient of the team Chanute Prize in 2012 for launching CIVS at Purdue Northwest.
“It is a great honor to be recognized by The Society of Innovators,” said Zhou. “I am very proud of the many contributions by our PNW students, staff, and colleagues. I want to thank the PNW leadership who value the unique opportunity of housing the Center on our campus. Their support helps assure the distinctiveness of our work as a contribution to the major industries in Northwest Indiana and beyond, as well as to the education of our students. My special thanks go to the Steel Consortium members. They are the driving force behind the consortium. I am also very grateful that The Society and the community recognize the value of our work.”
The Gerald I. Lamkin Fellow for Innovation and Service award honors visionaries and innovators who practice extraordinary service to the community, region and world. Zhou is recognized for her establishment of the Steel Manufacturing Simulation and Visualization Consortium that aspires to uplift the American steel industry.
“This highest Fellow award is given not for a single innovation, but for the ‘accretion of power for good’ over time,” said Managing Director of The Society of Innovators of NWI John Davies.
Awards were presented at the Society’s 13th annual induction ceremony Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond.
The Society of Innovators was established by Ivy Tech Community College in 2005.
